Summary
Following a controversial botched wedding proposal on a Reality Dating Show, Jada Townsend-Matthews goes home to San Diego California to lay low while the scandal dies down. She starts working at a small cupcake bakery, Sugar Blitz owned by the city own NFL Player Donovan Dell. The news gets out that Jada is working in the shop. When a reporter assumes that Jada is linked to Donovan romantically. The pair agree to fake a relationship to help Jada’s damaged reputation and help Dovonvan save his cupcake bakery from bankruptcy. It doesn’t take long for them to get more than they bargained for.

Let me start with this, this book was my first contemporary romance novel. I wanted to challenge some of my internalized misogyny when I picked up this book up from the store. I enjoyed every page! I thought the book was tastefully cute and sweet without being annoying or over the top. I love the redemption arc for Jada the main character, of her finding her stride again after the humiliation of her onscreen scandal. This is the perfect read for someone skeptical about the contemporary romance novel. Something you can get cozy with on the couch with a pastry. My only criticism of the book would be that the stakes didn’t seem high enough to me. However, this is coming from someone who only reads dystopian, sci-fi, and fantasy so take that with a grain of salt.
Upcoming Spinoff: A Legend in the Baking
The second installment from the sweet world that brought us, Sugar Blitz is ” A Legend in the Baking”. So far we know this novel follows the budding romance of Donovans’ younger sister Sloane, and Silent business partner August Hodges. The romantic tension was only hinted at in the first novel but now we have a whole novel to look forward to on July 2nd, 2024.
